This will be the seventh weekly wifi tournament held over IRC. For directions on how to get to our channel please visit: http://skarmbliss.com/forum/index.php?topic=93.0

This weekly wifi tournament test will be held this Saturday, March 6th, 2010, at 4:00 PM EST. Signups start half an hour before start time on IRC so please try to get there early. We don't want to have to hold up the tournaments for late registration. To sign up, just go on IRC a little while before the start time and sign up. Simple as that!

For reference, check the FC database thread for the FCs of your opponents. It is found here: http://skarmbliss.com/forum/index.php?topic=107.0

just a thought, but i vote to get rid of the swiss rounds.  Swiss rounds make the tournament absolutely suck after two losses, since you cant win it.  I would rather have double elimination.

Except maybe some of us enjoy the concept of having loads of battles for extra experience?

If I lose 5 games in a row I would still have enjoyed the fun of playing in Swiss because it allows me to test a lot of different strategies and work out how good a certain team works against some of the best VGCers in the world.

I agree that some of us want to win the weekly tournament, but I only see it as good sportsmanship to play all 5 rounds. Smiley

Yeah, you're right my British friend but as a matter of fact, people quit the tournament after 2 or 3 losses, just look at how the last tourneys finished. PBB wanted to make a top 8 cut but at the end of those five 5 rounds, only 8 players were still there, which, to my mind, is proof enough that the system needs to be rethought. Double-elimination is IMO the best format since you get in at least two matches, usually more if you don't completely suck.
Also, if the tourney takes more time than anticipated, which also happened in the last few tourneys, it is really bad for the Europeans since it is already 9/10 pm when it starts here and when it takes 4-5 hours, it is simply too late for us, even for a weekend, so that most of us quit the tourney before round 5 and/or the tops.

DE needs more love.

*nods* That makes sense and last time I was struggling to finish my 5th match in time! Plus this week I can only play till 6PM EST so yeah, 2 battles probably would be for the best and since loads will be on, makes sense to suggest that.

Okay, sounds cool beans. I support it.

Hello, I would like to participate in the tournament but I have a problem, now I do not have wi-fi due to technical problems in 2 or 3 weeks I'll have wi-fi, eh thought I would participate and that my battles were for net Batlle, if by chance reached the semifinals or the final, so if I go to a floor where there is wi-fi.

Could participate?

I really like Swiss, but I understand why it may seem pointless to some after two losses because you can't win. But really I would think if you got two losses, you're probably better off playing the rest of the tourney out for the experience so you don't get two losses next tourney... I guess we can have a vote on the IRC on Saturday.

Couldn't you just ask for a battle from somebody who's also out if it was double elimination?
Just because you're out of the tournament doesn't mean you cant battle anymore.

Yeah. That's a good point.

Aside: doesn't double elimination take just as long as Swiss?

I really like the swiss format, but it takes a lot of time, and as somebody who seems to have something pop up every Saturday (it's almost surreal at this point >_>) it's really frustrating to be in the middle of the tournament, then have to leave due to real life obligations.

If there was a way we could expedite matches somehow (maybe the first two people to win one round face of next, and so forth) in swiss format it'd be great, but waiting for everybody to finish is really time consuming.
